Akemi Tsutsui-Kunitake is a fude brush 筆  ink artist based in Denver, Colorado.  Her illustrations are noted for her use of a single traditional Japanese brush with very little use of pen, with the exception of stippled imagery.  Akemi's work is informed by her identity as a third and fourth-generation (sansei-han and yonsei), mixed-race Japanese American.  Her imagery blends themes of Japanese folklore with Western mysticism, inspired by the intersectionality of cultural tradition, ancestral wisdom and modern identity.  She is a frequent collaborator with the Japanese Arts Network as a Cultural Consultant and artistic partner. Akemi is also a teacher at Ritualcravt School  where she hosts classes on Japanese folk magic and traditions.
